You may agree or disagree on the above statement, but that’s the Reality. If you understand the power of personal motivation you can convert your dreams into reality for sure.
The Key to success is motivation ,take it as an individual or management professional who needs to keep his employees motivated to produce results or as an organization who wants to grow its client base & Quarter-To-Quarter profits.
Question is, towards ensuring the successful achievement of an organizations goal, what is the biggest hurdle in motivating resourceful people?
I recall an incident .Few months before, a renowned MNCs has organized training sessions on motivation. Purpose was obviously to motivate the employees ranging from technical experts to middle management magnets. Expected outcome was to implant a motivation booster in achieve certain organizational goal/s.
When training has kicked-off and started clicking into the nerves of audience, I noticed that many of participants have been struggling with some of their own inevitable feeling/s and like a background daemon thread, that feeling has been revolving through their brains all the time. Surely its impact was diluting their motivation towards specific organizational goal/s. A few of them has raised their invisible red flags as resistance to get motivated .Obviously it was a series of indirect expressions of their unsaid concerns, they never uttered in words, but I kept reading their nonverbal communication .
I was trying to figure out the reason behind that resistance.  They are more than capable & competent (as was told to me )to actualize utmost achievements. Then, why they are not sufficiently self-motivated?
In next few minutes I deduced something which was hidden under multiple layers of their front faces. I understood the root-cause of resistance and envisioned the anatomy of hurdle in the path of implanting motivation into their body & soul.
They had their undisclosed personal goals and their personal goals were not aligned with the organizational goal in proper proportion. Not to mention that humans by nature are selfish creatures. They get motivated to do only those things in which they see themselves approaching towards their own goal.
It’s no surprise but a most common scenario in corporate organizations worldwide.
Someone is really keen to get recognitions or rewards; others may be extremely inclined towards their growth in terms of opportunity to enrich the knowledge & expertise, never the less a huge group of people are highly interested to achieve monitory benefits from appraisal cycle.
Identifying all these categories of people then forming a team with right mix is first step to realize an organizational goal. Second step is aligning each person’s individual goal with the related organizational goal.  Then what is remaining is the easiest third & last step, i.e., stimulate the urge within each member of the team to achieve personal goals in most efficient way.
Each individual can be easily motivated to reach their self-goal and consequently organizational goal/s will automatically be achieved.
This is the key to motivate people; this is the key to get the work done in most productive way and that too without any kind of micromanagement or push.
Alignment of personal goals to professional goals to organizational goals and then heading towards achieving certain outcome is not an easy job, and that’s where leadership plays the vital role. That’s why strong leadership is the backbone to organizational success.
